What is a Hardness Tester?

  • What is a hardness test? An indenter is pressed into the surface of a sample, and the size of the indentation is converted into a hardness value.
            Small indentation = Hard
            Large indentation = Soft
    Evaluates not only the hardness of metal surfaces after heat treatment but also the hardness of rubber and resin materials.
  • The indentation obtained depends on the shape of the indenter and how the test force is applied.
    These indentations are specified in detail in the hardness test standards.
  • The Vickers hardness test and Rockwell hardness test are two of the most commonly used hardness testing methods.
  • A portable rebound hardness tester is also available for convenient on-site use.
