Measuring Instrument Overview

What is an Optical Measuring Instrument?

  • An optical instrument magnifies small objects using an optical lens, allowing the magnified image to be observed through a circular screen, eyepiece, or digital display. These instruments are designed for the inspection, measurement, and detailed analysis of small features or components and include systems such as profile projectors, optical comparators, and microscopes.
  • By combining optical observations with a Cartesian coordinate system, dimensions can be accurately determined by measuring points, lines, circles, and plane elements on a flat surface.

Items Measurable with an Optical Measuring Instrument

Key Point: Complex calculations can be performed by combining optical observations with a cartesian.

System Configuration: Profile Projector

System Configuration: Microscope

Benefits of Implementation

  • Being contactless, it allows for the measurement of soft materials and intricate areas.
・No deformation in part while being measured or potential markings left behind
  • The enlarged image can be visually confirmed by multiple people simultaneously.
・When utilizing a Profile Projector, which consists of a large display

・A Microscope with a compatible digital camera interface, displayed on a computer screen

  • Easy to operate by anyone.
・The enlarged image can be obtained through intuitive operation.
・The contour shape can be easily evaluated by comparing it with a part overlay or DXF comparison in software
  • Various dimensional measurements can be performed by combining optical observations with a cartesian.
・Dimensions                    Diagonal dimensions, pitch measurements, angles, etc.
    ・Geometric tolerances     Evaluation (positioning, etc.)
  • Cost-Effective inspection solution with versatility to handle a wide variety of products.

Points to Consider When Selecting a Model

  • Projection system(Profile Projector)
  • Observation system(Measuring Microscope)
・Bright field, Dark field, Polarization, Diffrencial intereference observation
  • Machine size and load capacity

  • Projection magnification(magnification of objective lens)(Profile projector)
  • Observation magnification (objective lens and eyepiece lens) (Measuring Microscope)

  • Availability of computing equipment
